“The stories symbolize what it means to move forward,” Harrison said. “And so then we pay more attention to those things and then we move forward again.”
The above is from an article in The Athletic by Rustin Dodd that featured Spencer Harrison, professor of organizational behavior at INSEAD in France, and is about organizational culture through the lens of the NBA and how many teams (and other organizations) don’t understand what culture is even about.
The reason this is speaking to me right now is the idea of moving forward and how we are best able to achieve that. Sounds simple on the face of it, but is it really that possible in a world with so many distractions? And how would our lives be different if we were able to stay focused on only those things that move us forward?
This is my attempt to document my efforts to add more discipline and focus to my day-to-day existence, and this iteration starts with this: https://www.thesunshine.express/thequantumstate.
This is the work of Jess Churchill, a friend, companion on the journey, and someone who has been able to help me find a word that sums up everything good, bad, and in between, and that is energy. Energy is a way to help us understand everything that is life and allows us to put just the right amount of weight on things, all things, and stops us from looking at the world as a binary state, i.e. good, bad. This also (at least for me) helps me to navigate the inevitable fears and distractions that arise, but also keeps a deeply emotional person like myself grounded.

I am curious to hear more about your thoughts on energy, and can’t wait to meet Jess!
